Classification and labelling obligations
EUROPEAN COMMUNITY – 1 December 2010
The Regulation (EC) N° 1272/2008 on the Classification, Labelling and Packaging (CLP) of chemical substances and mixtures started to apply as from 1 December 2010. The CLP Regulation implements the United Nations Globally Harmonized System (GHS) at EU level and will gradually replace Directive 67/548 for dangerous substances (DSD) and Directive 1999/45 for preparations (DPD). On 3 January 2011 expired the deadline for companies to notify the classification and labelling of all chemical substances that are hazardous or subject to registration under REACh and placed on the EU market.
As a manufacturer of chemicals, Akema has classified and labelled its substances in line with the new CLP criteria and notified the classifications to the C&L Inventory in ECHA.

REACh implementation
EUROPEAN COMMUNITY – 1 June 2008
The new European Regulation on chemicals, known as REACh, is now procedurally operative. All European manufacturers and importers of chemicals must register not exempted substances to ECHA. Existing substances can be pre-registered within 1 December 2008, in order to take advantage of transitional provisions for “phase-in” substances.
Akema will pre-register in due time all substances manufactured in quantity over 1 ton/year with the intention to register within 2013/2018 deadlines. As a downstream user, Akema will ensure that substances used for manufacturing will be duly pre-registered and/or registered.
We’re working to ensure a smooth transition from the current system to full compliance with REACh Regulation. If you have more question concerning how REACh will affect our products, you can contact us at lab@akema.it .
